Cogeneration (chp) as alternative energy production to ecological neighborhoods

Abstract

At present, the power generation systems based on cogeneration are in process of evolutionary development. The projects proposed are applied to small power plants for industries, hospitals, office buildings, etc., and systems are being considered to serve entire neighborhoods associated with the transformation of cities. These cogeneration projects are presented as a viable alternative to offer a whole district the energy produced in its own sector, as it has been done with other technologies such as solar. The implement of cogeneration in a neighborhood means improving the efficiency of local energy production to avoid losses that may occur in transport. Moreover, cogeneration plants that use biogas digestion of waste generated in the neighborhood could be used in the same neighborhood, closing the energy cycle.
