Verplaatsingen van vrouwen en onveiligheidsgevoel in Brussel: percepties en strategieën

Abstract

Gelijkheid tussen mannen en vrouwen bij de verplaatsingen in de stad is verre van verworven. Een aspect van dat onevenwicht heeft te maken met het onveiligheidsgevoel waarmee vooral vrouwen geconfronteerd worden. Het artikel analyseert de diversiteit van het onveiligheidsgevoel van vrouwen, maar ook de omvang waarmee het tot uiting komt in de manier waarop ze zich in de stad verplaatsen. De problematiek zet aan tot een reflectie over de interiorisering van de sociale differentiatie tussen de geslachten en over de wijze waarop dat onze relatie met onze omgeving beïnvloedt, onder meer in een anonieme context die typisch is voor steden. Aangezien de problematiek nog vrij nieuw is in Brussel, bevat het artikel een verkennende analyse op basis van semi-directieve gesprekken met tien vrouwen die in Brussel wonen.L’égalité entre hommes et femmes en matière de déplacement dans la ville est loin d’être acquise. Un aspect de ce déséquilibre est lié au sentiment d’insécurité qui affecte plus spécifiquement les femmes. Cet article analyse la diversité, mais aussi l’ampleur avec laquelle se manifeste le sentiment d’insécurité des femmes dans leur manière de se déplacer en ville. Cette problématique invite à une réflexion sur l’intériorisation de la différenciation sociale entre les sexes et sur la manière dont celle-ci affecte notre relation avec notre entourage, notamment dans un contexte d’anonymat propre au milieu urbain. S’agissant d’une thématique émergente à Bruxelles, cet article présente une analyse exploratoire basée sur des entretiens semi-directifs menés auprès de dix femmes vivant à Bruxelles.Equality between men and women in terms of travelling in the city is far from being a reality. One aspect of this imbalance is linked to feeling unsafe, which affects women in particular. This article analyses the diversity as well as the scope of the feeling of being unsafe as experienced by women, in their ways of travelling in the city. This problem calls for a reflection on the interiorisation of the social differentiation between the sexes and the way in which it affects the relationship with one’s surroundings, in particular in a context of anonymity specific to an urban environment. The study presented in this article has an exploratory character, and is based on semi-structured interviews conducted with ten women who live in Brussels.
