Abstract

This chapter is intended for a later stage in purification efforts, when a method has been established, or a published method has been tried, but there may be some dissatisfaction with the overall procedure. The objectives of a scheme for the purification of an enzyme or other protein may be any or all of the following: 1.High overall recovery of activity; 2.High degree of purity of the end product; 3.Reproducibility a.within the laboratory, b.if scaled up or scaled down, c.in other laboratories; 4.Economical use of reagents and simple apparatus; 5.Convenience in terms of working hours.
