Abstract

Modern chemical analysis has derived largely from the methods developed in antiquity as a result of the need to assay gold and other precious metals for coin authentication and other reasons. Surprisingly the three basic assay methods in use 2 500 years ago are still employed today. © 1983 World Gold Council.
