Abstract

Laparoscopic fundoplication has emerged as the gold standard for treating refractory reflux disease and symptoms of gastric herniation. Surgical success rates as measured by patient satisfaction and symptom relief have been reported to be between 85% and 95% [1, 2]. However, as with any operation, we should continue to critically examine clinical failures in an effort to identify and correct potential sources of technical weaknesses. © 2010 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.
