Abstract

Genomic research has primarily contributed to the improvements experienced today across different sectors ranging from biomedical, forensic, industrial, pharmaceutical, and drug discovery, to agricultural and medical research. These were due to the emergence of bioinformatics, chemoinformatics, and computational biology. The use of bioinformatics tools for the analysis and storage of biological data for structural and functional biological processes or properties of proteins depends on databases and repositories of DNA,RNA, or amino acid sequences that code for such protein. This chapter provides a brief overview of the use of bioinformatics tools and databases for genomic research in various sectors.
