Abstract

Metal nanoparticles have led to exciting progress in a versatile array of applications. For the purpose of better tailoring of nanoparticle activities and understanding the correlation between their structures and properties, control over the composition, shape, size, and morphology of multimetallic nanoparticles plays an important role on revealing their novel or enhanced functions for potential application. In this chapter, we give an overview of various chemical synthesis techniques, and advanced electron microscopy characterization techniques including Z-contrast imaging, microanalysis, tomography, geometrical phase analysis, and holography were used to provide an atomic-scale insight into the structure–properties of different materials: Au/Pd, Au/Co, Pt/Pd, Au/Cu, Ag/Pd/Pt, and Au/Cu/Pt nanoparticles.
