Abstract

The work described is part of the European project ViSiCAST, which develops an avatar presented in a web page, signing the current weather forecast. The daily content of the forecast is created by semi-automatic conversion of a written weather forecast into sign language. All signs needed for weather forecasts were separately recorded by way of motion capturing. The sign language forecast is displayed on a computer by and animating fluently blended sequences of pre-recorded signs. Through a browser plug-in, this application will work on the world-wide-web. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2002.
