The methodology of global management of the distribution process, i.e., the Supply Chain Management (SCM), has gained a high level of diffusion in modern organizations. At the moment the supply chain plays a critical role and constantly challenges the health care domain. In this field, the SCM approach intends to manage the whole specific goods supplying process, drugs' assemblage and distribution and assistance to patients in the cure administration. This paper examines some of the key considerations and opportunities for SCM solutions in the field of Health specific goods and focuses the benefits of an integrated management of the processes and the main actors involved. The analysis also shows the difficulties in the implementation of ICT solutions in the health care supply in order to improve speed of execution goods and service costs and offered quality. © 2008 Physica-Verlag Heidelberg.
