Abstract

This textbook containing chapters on all aspects of sugar-cane production is divided into five main sections: (1) the plant and its environment; (2) phytosanitary problems; (3) production; (4) utilization and processing techniques; (5) economic factors. This final section discusses world production and consumption, trade, the world sugar economy, the organization of sugar marketing-(a) national, bilateral, multinational and international agreements and (b) the free market-and sugar in terms of the development problem.
