Atherosclerotic disease underlying irreversible cerebrovascular damage (stroke) is currently the third most common cause of death (following neoplasm and heart disease) and the main cause of disability in industrialized countries. Computed Tomography and Magnetic Resonance Angiography (CTA and MRA) are now fundamental steps in the clinical and surgical management of patients with carotid artery disease (Figs. 6.1-6.3; Tables 6.1-6.3).
