This introduction describes the structure of the book, and in particular how it is divided into sections and chapters. It gives an outline of what can be found in each chapter, and gives a description of the origin and structure of the organisation known as the Auto-ID Laboratories whose members have studied the anti-counterfeiting problem and have provided the material for this book. © 2008 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.
