Correction of the high-riding nipple after breast reduction

Abstract

Reduction mammaplasty and mastopexy are common procedures that typify the congruity between reconstruction and aesthetic concepts. When properly planned and executed, these procedures provide patients with viable options for changing the size or the shape of the breast. Lifting the breast and raising the nipple-areola complex also provide for a more youthful appearance. Improper planning or execution can result in several problems. One of the most devastating problems is placement of the nipples in an unnaturally high position. For the patient, this is difficult, and in some cases, impossible to camouflage. This leads to unhappiness and a loss of confidence in the doctor. Few reports in the literature offer the physician options for reconstruction of this challenging problem [1-6]. © 2009 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.
