Abstract

The aim of the paper is to present a proposal of new information content of a decision support system that would support diabetes management, in particular at patient side. The ultimate goal in diabetes treatment is to achieve normoglycaemia. Therefore any tools and technologies that can help control the glucose level better are desirable. In this respect more information about daily activities of the patients, their food intake and energy output can definitely contribute to this task. Mobile technologies offer many functionalities that can be advantageously used. However, it is necessary to identify the data and information that should be collected. The intended applications must be motivating and unobtrusive. We briefly review current mobile applications showing their advantages and disadvantages. Finally we discuss the features and functionalities of the proposed system for more individualized diabetes management.
