Abstract

Eutrophic reservoirs produce many management problems for both water supply and recreational management, which are only expensively solved. A range of eco-technical methods have been used over the past 10 years to control phosphorus and nuisance algal bloom levels. Three case studies are used to show that these methods may be successful but, if used without careful monitoring or controls, or if not applied in combination with each other or with other techniques, their practical value and benefit-cost ratio may not be apparent.
