Abstract

Car accident statistics indicate that the pedestrians are the majority of the road traffic victims due to drivers' lack of adequate visibility on the road. In this paper, the effects of human natural sounds in drivers' awareness were investigated in order to increase pedestrian safety by carrying out a study on introducing a 3D sound system into drivers. All studies with collected results showed strong positive support to the design of using 3D sound system to present the pedestrians' situation to car drivers. © 2011 Springer-Verlag.
