Abstract

In this chapter, the authors describe data obtainment and utilization from the viewpoint of combining it with precise social simulations. More Specifically, taking traffic simulations as an example, the quantification of traffic system value is described using data output from a traffic simulator. Then, using the same simulator, an approach for estimating actual human trip demands behind the traffic system is explained, and the value of data obtainment is discussed. Through these case studies, the authors show that combining data utilization with simulationss is an effective method for analyzing the behavior of people who constitute social systems and for supporting the design of those systems.
