Abstract

Europe PMC ( https:// europepmc.org/ ) isãn openãccess database of life science journalãrticlesãnd preprints, which contains o v er 42 millionãb- stractsãnd o v er 9 million full textãrticlesãccessible via the website, APIsãnd bulk do wnload. T his publication outlines ne w de v elopments to the Europe PMC platform since the last database update in 2020 (1)ãnd focuses on five mainãreas. (i) Improving discoverabilit y, reproducibilit yãnd trust in preprints b y inde xing ne w preprint content, enriching preprint metãdatããnd identifying withdrawnãnd remo v ed preprints. (ii) Enhancing support f or te xtãnd data mining b y e xpanding the types ofãnnotations providedãnd de v eloping the Europe PMC Annotations Corpus, which can be used to train machine learning models to increase theirãccuracyãnd precision. (iii) De v eloping the Article Status Monitor toolãnd emailãlerts, to notify usersãbout newãrticlesãnd updates to existing records. (iv) Positioning Europe PMCãsãn open scholarly infrastr uct ure through increasing the portion of open source core software, improving sustãinabilit yãndãccessibility of the service.
