Abstract

This paper deals with an analytical study on flexural-torsional buckling analysis of thin-walled FRP laminated I-beams with different sizes of flange. A general analytical model is developed based on shear deformable beam theory. The response of I-beam has been investigated for different flange width to thickness, depth to thickness, and length to depth ratios. Furthermore, comparison of critical buckling load isdone with and without consideration of shear deformation. The same study is extended to check the response of beam for different types of flexural loading such as point and uniformly distributed transverse loads with different boundary conditions. The results obtained from an analytical model are compared with FEM software ABAQUS for thesame geometric configuration and loading on the beam. It is observed that the results obtained from the analytical modeling are in good agreement with that of ABAQUS.
