Abstract

Newton's law which is the focus of physics material next requires high scientific reasoning skill. This article is a survey research conducted on 207 students with descriptive quantitative methods. This study aims to explore patterns and levels of scientific reasoning of students in Newton's law. The instrument used is the development of MLCTSR (Modified Lawson Classroom Test Scientific Reasoning) in the form of 15 items (reability 0.828) that were adjusted to Newton's law. The results of research shows that the TM category dominated almost all pattern of SR. The highest SR mastery is on the PBR pattern while the lowest is on the HDR pattern. Overall, 33% of students are at a concrete operational level, 53% at the transition level, and only 14% of students at the formal operational level. From these results it can be concluded that the pattern and level of SR of students in newton’s law were still relatively low.
