Abstract

Strict patient selection, careful preoperative preparation, and close post- operative care are critical to successful outcomes with bariatric procedures. Laparoscopic gastric banding appears to be the best available option currently for pediatric obesity, followed by sleeve gastrectomy. Bariatric surgery should be performed at highly specialized centers with substantial pediatric subspecialty and surgical expertise on site.
