Abstract

IoT is being greatly used for designing a proper waste management system i.e. collection and disposal techniques. In the smart cities concept, sustaining water, energy and management of waste which includes some basic restrictions on the use of greenhouse gases in the areas concerned. This paper reviews various waste collection and disposal techniques such as smart bins, recycling and open sky incineration, secured landfilling, composting, incineration & waste to energy (WTE), lagooning etc. as well as the planning and operations required with their challenges. There are various changes taking place in the environment causing global warming due to the human activities. To maintain the environmental sustainability, there has to be proper planning, management and operations to be carried out. Fortunately, IoT has the answer to assist the utilization method at each stage of the waste management.
