Abstract

The metabolism of [1-C 14 ]linolenic acid (18:3ω3) by the foetal rat was studied in vivo and in vitro. It is suggested that foetal brain has the capacity to convert linolenic to docosahexaenoic (22:6ω3) acid to meet its requirements for docosahexaenoic acid.
