Background/Objective: Difficulty maintaining a consistent exercise routine has been widely described in patients with diabetes. This has led to the search for strategies to integrate physical activity and exercise as a part of the treatment. Method: We applied the Global Physical Activity Questionnaire (GPAQ) and a questionnaire to determine the barriers that prevented them from exercising at baseline and 2, 3, and 12 months. Each evaluation established specific educational strategies to solve the main barrier to exercise. Results: We included 154 patients with type 2 diabetes, 55.6% women, age 52.6 ± 10 years, time of diagnosis of diabetes of 1.5 (0-3) years. Baseline, 74.5% of the patients had one or more barriers to exercise. Barriers decreased after the intervention to 39.3%. The most frequent initial barriers were "lack of time" (54%). At 1 year, 48.4% of patients had no barriers. Patients without barriers increased moderate exercise time from 45 (0-155) to 160 (80-240) min at 1 .
