We propose a scheme for providing differentiated services in an optical burst switching network environment. Our framework considers differentiation among several traffic classes in packet loss probability, assuming only that the network differentiates neatly between two classes of bursts. We formulate a reduced load fixed point model for evaluating the blocking probabilities of the different types of bursts. The model is the basis to compare several flavors of OBS in terms of ability for achieving quality of service. Motivated by technological constraints, we investigate the effect of wavelength density on its performance. © IFIP International Federation for Information Processing 2007.
