Abstract

Background: Pregabalin (PGB), an anticonvulsant, was studied throughout this work usingspectrophotometric method. Methods: The spectrophotometric method is based on the condensation reaction of PGB withp-dimethylaminobenzaldehyde (p DMAB) in acid medium. Thecondensation product showed λmax at 420 nm. Results: The different parameters affecting the stability of the condensation product werecarefully studied and optimized. The calibration plots were constructed over theconcentration range of 40 to 120 μg ml-1. Conclusions: A simple, reliable, sensitive and accurate spectrophotometric method has beendeveloped for the determination of an anticonvulsant drug, PGB. The proposedmethod was successfully applied to the analysis of the drug in dosage form. Thehigh sensitivity of the proposed method allows determination of PGB in bulk and inpharmaceutical preparations.
