Abstract

Formation mechanism of layered fracture and outburst in soils is investigated. It is shown that once the pore pressure is high enough to cause the overcap failure, layered fracture or outburst occurs in liquefied or gasified sediments. The formation conditions are related to the strength of sediments and the boundary friction.
