This article mainly explores Samin people’s values practiced in daily life to create batik motif. Samin people are a group of people identifed by their modest and honest way of life who live in some areas in East and Central Java. They are called Samin after the name of their ideological patron, SaminSurosentiko. In this research, Samin people of a village called Jepang at Bojonegoro Regency East Java were observed.Based on the held values, Samin men wear distinguished clothes. One of the characteristics is that they wear udheng, a traditional cloth headgear. Udhengis symbolically related to human’s mind or intellect placed inside the head which is at the brain. The name udheng is derived from the Javanese “mudheng” means ‘the state of understand things’. Udheng symbolizes humans’ understanding and awarenessabout their privileged positions as God’s creation that are unique for their ability for complex reasoning undertaken in the brain. Until today,Samin society has strongly maintained their noble values and attitudes. Batik motif applied on udheng can be used as an effective medium in delivering the moral teachings to the younger generation. The theme of the motif designed is the essence of SaminSurosentiko’s sublime doctrines. Those teachings are visualized through flora shapes and imaginative symbols. In this way, it is expected that the motif created will preserve and convey the addressed wisdoms to Samin people. Next, the motifs can be used as artifacts that characterize Samin people living in Jepang village. For a longer term it is really hope that the motif can be their intellectual property right as cultural capital from which they can get benefits.
