Abstract

Data on the mechanical behaviour and tightness of spiral wound gaskets and gaskets made of pure expanded graphite was examined using tests carried out on gaskets using helium. Reasons why these results are insufficient to allow the gasket leak flow rate with a liquid to be calculated are discussed. The procedure and equipment used to carry out water tightness tests is described. Results obtained using an expanded graphite gasket at various temperatures under a pressure (steam and then water) of 1-200bar are presented.
