Abstract

Critically examines the use of the momentum equation in describing transient pipe flows. Studies the criteria for evaluating the friction term and the variability of the Coriolis momentum factor. A local approach is followed and experimental velocity distributions in unsteady flow evaluated. Notes the extreme variability in the unsteady velocity profiles and presence of the annular effect.
