Abstract

It is difficult for highway design enterprises to manage collaborative highway design process due to its distributive and collaborative characters. Aiming at this problem, a web-based project management system for collaborative highway design was developed based on Project 2002 software. First, the organization structure of the design team is formulated, and the design process was analyzed and improved. Next, web-based project planning and controlling methods were studied. Then, the system structure and functions are proposed. Finally, a case study was illustrated to show the application of the system. The application shows that the system can effectively control the collaborative highway design process and improve the communication efficiency of the project. © 2010 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.
