Abstract

Toddlers are separate age group which needs special attention in development and growth. If there are any obstruction in this age period will certainly cause the nuisance to preparations in the establishment of child quality. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship of the characteristics between the parents towards toddler development. This was an analytic research with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 78 mothers and children aged 12-59 months in Karayunan Village taken with accidental sampling. Analysis of the data comprised univariate and bivariate with chi-square test. The result showed that the majority of parents had a low education background of elementary-junior high school, unemployment, and have the lower income (less than 850.000) and parenting done by parents themselves. Statistical test results respectively revealed that was a relationship between education and income of parents impact the early childhood development. However, there was no relationship between employment and parenting and early childhood development. Therefore, the public health center in the village is expected to work harder in increasing the stimulation, detection and intervention activities for early childhood growth and development.
