Abstract

SynonymsMPEG-7 user interaction tools; User preferences; Usage historiesDefinitionThe imbalance between the range of representable content metadata and the range of expressable preferences about that content using the MPEG-7 user interaction tools.In order to understand the MPEG-7 content-user gap it is first necessary to understand the user interaction tools within the MPEG-7 Multimedia Description Schemes (MDS) [1,2]. The UserPreferences DS enables users to specify their preferences on a scale of −100 to 100 relative to other preferences. The FilteringAndSearchPreferences DS groups together preferences related to creating, classifying and sourcing content, and hierarchies of preference groupings are permitted. The CreationPreferences DS describes the following preferences: title, creator, keyword, location, date period and tool. The ClassificationPreferences DS describes country, date period, language format, language, caption language, form, genre, subject, review, ...
