Abstract

Some Western countries, such as England, the Netherlands, Canada, and Australia, have clinical guidelines that provide different time-based recommendations for rehabilitation after stroke. This review seeks to understand the effect of time spent in rehabilitation, to support service providers to optimize recovery for people following stroke. It does so by examining studies that include groups of participants that received different amounts of the same type of rehabilitation (defined as any nonpharmacological, nonsurgical intervention that aims to improve activity after stroke).
