Abstract

Librarians frequently find themselves wanting to put up a Webpage or site but needing guidance in good design principles. This workshop concentrated on two major aspects of design. The first was planning, which is very important and requires considerable time to do well. The second aspect was aesthetics, which is more subjective; some good general guidelines, however, are available. This workshop concentrated on discussing these aspects rather than dealing with the details of Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) coding. Participants were given a planning exercise to do individually, followed by a general discussion of both particular problems and good design principles. Exercise diskettes and a Webliography were provided. Further information is available at the session Website.
