Before commencement of an endoscopic procedure, it is important to explain the procedure to the family of the child being operated. Endoscopic procedures are part of a rapid evolving technology and families may not be fully aware of the advantages or disadvantages of such procedures. Also, within the surgical team whenever a new procedure is being introduced, the surgeon must make sure that the operating room staff has understood the flow chart of the procedure. This also involves the operation room setup, instrumentation and equipment, patient preparation and most important patient safety concerns. Issues dealing with the video equipment and scopes must be dealt with before commencement of the procedures in terms of compatibility. Incompatibility of instruments and equipments during a procedure may cause undue delay and technical difficulties during a procedure; with replacements frequently difficult to find immediately.
