Business Process Management (BPM) is a concept that has been widely discussed in organizations and information management systems. Thus the main objective of this article is to present through a review of the literature the theme seeking to illustrate its versatility of application as well as gains in indicators of productivity and management in industrial manufacturing organizations and services. In this way the relevance of processes as an essential element for organizational performance has been verified and that these have grown due to strong competition regarding cost, time, quality, increased product complexity and customer requirements. Finally it was concluded that understanding the business processes in an organization and directing strategic actions in the search for the potential of the benefits that contribute to the perception of values of products and services delivered to the customers is a challenge of modern management.
