Abstract

The management of ureteral stones has evolved over the past several decades where removal of ureteral calculi once required an open procedure, now virtually all calculi can be treated with a minimally invasive approach. This advancement has beenfostered by significant technological improvements in both endoscopic visualization and dexterity. Instrumental in this transition has been the development and improvement of adjunctive tools used in ureteral stone management. The vast armamentarium available in endourology today not only requires the urologist to possess endourologic surgical skills, but also expertise and knowledge regarding the available equipment and proper use of each device. This chapter will provide an overview and discuss the practical application of the available ancillary equipment used in the management of ureteral stones.
