Abstract

Parenting is a process of raising and educating children from birth until adulthood. Parenting style varies across cultures. This chapter discusses the parenting styles in India. It includes the factors influencing parenting and changes that have happened in India over the years with globalization and industrialization and existing policies, schemes and Government programmes to support families and parenting efforts. It is hoped that this chapter will give an insight into parenting styles in India and the role of the State and other key people to support parents in fulfilling their responsibilities.
