Abstract

This paper provides a detailed review of tournament selection in genetic programming. It starts from introducing tournament selection and genetic programming, followed by a brief explanation of the popularity of the tournament selection in genetic programming. It then reviews issues and drawbacks in tournament selection, followed by analysis of and solutions to these issues and drawbacks. It finally points out some interesting directions for future work. © 2010 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.
