2022 marks the 140th anniversary of the birth of the musician and teacher Valentina Nikolaevna Shatskaya. The article is devoted to the study of the heritage of V. N. Shatskaya. The article highlights the fact that the ideas and methods proposed by this outstanding teacher-musician of the twentieth century are aimed at the future, but are insufficiently evaluated in terms of the prospects for the development of music education. In her theoretical works and practical activities, V. N. Shatskaya implemented new approaches to building an individual trajectory of the musical and aesthetic education of a child (taking into account his musical manifestations); approaches to the work of children in small groups; in search and research activities focused on the transformation of the social environment (research of songs and life of the village); in the application of various methods of musical and pedagogical diagnostics; in experimental activities. In addition, under the leadership by V. N. Shatskaya, innovative forms of musical and educational extracurricular work were developed in detail in terms of content and methods of organization: concerts-lectures, concertstalks, seminars, conferences of listeners. However, most of the innovations were not introduced into mass musical and educational practice. Currently, in general pedagogy and pedagogy of music education, targets have been formed related to a competencebased practice-oriented approach, with the construction of an individual educational trajectory, with the detailed development of diagnostic tools, with the development of extracurricular music and educational activities, with the widespread use of project activities. Perhaps these innovative needs will contribute to the revival of interest in V. N. Shatskaya’s heritage.
