Sarcoidosis is a chronic, multisystem disorder with potentially debilitating clinical manifestations. Cutaneous sarcoidosis occasionally causes a vast distribution of papules and plaques on the extremities. A more specific form, lupus pernio, involves the head, neck, nasolabial folds, and periocular regions. Treatment is based on case reports, expert opinion, and clinical experience. Cryotherapy has been used in cutaneous and other forms of sarcoidosis; it is most appropriate for nodules less than 3 cm in diameter. Complications include scarring, alopecia, and dyschromia at the site of cryotherapy.
