Abstract

Improving the maintainability and reusability of the scenario specification has gained increasing attention as it increases requirement quality and reduces software costs. This paper extends the concept of refactoring from source code to scenario specifications, which are described with the message sequence chart (MSC). A set of MSC specification properties that refactorings must keep are proposed. Refactorings for MSC specifications are described. Finally, we show an example to illustrate the process of refactoring MSC specifications. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2003.
