Abstract

These deposits are usually formed in sea-floor depressions, preceded by stratification of sea-water into oxidizing and reducing zones. Pyritic bodies are formed in two stages: primary sedimentation takes place in thermodynamic disequilibrium conditions but the final form of the deposit is determined by diagenetic processes buffered within narrow ranges. -R.E.S.
