Lode Gold Deposits

Abstract

Gold mineralization potential of Mongolia has been studied since the 1900s, and small-scale mining activities have been known in the Northern Khentii metallogenic zone of Mongolia. Based on joint Mongolian-Russian, Mongolian-Japanese, and European gold explorers, seven metallogenic belts are recognized: (1) Mongol-Altai, (2) Nuur, (3) Northern Mongolia, (4) Central Mongolia, (5) Khangai Khentii, (6) Eastern Mongolia, and (7) Southern Mongolia. The belts are further divided into 25 zones and 70 districts identified. Using this classification as a base, gold metallogeny of Mongolia is described in concert with known gold deposits and occurrences. Here, the representative gold deposits and occurrences are introduced to characterize each metallogenic belt according to the main types of gold mineralization.
