The size, shape, and symmetry of the breasts can have a dramatic effect on the women’s well-being. Reduction mammaplasty is certainly one of the operations that plastic surgeons can significantly contribute to a woman’s quality of life. The history of breast reduction surgery is reviewed. The pathology of breast enlargement, gigantomastia, indications for surgery, goals and aesthetic concerns, and breast size after breast reduction are discussed. The author’s (FSF) personal technique is described. Possible complications of breast reductions are discussed.
