Abstract

Social Protection Law specifies that offenders who at the time had a state of dementia making them unable to control their actions must be interned. The Establishment of Social Defense of Tournai (Belgium) has 350 internees, including nearly 150 sex-offenders. Recognizing the limitations of existing support, we developed the project "épicéas". Composed of caregivers from diverse backgrounds, our project is developing a comprehensive approach, while emphasizing humanistic and systemic aspects. The first patient sex-offenders and their families under the stress of confinement, is a field still little marked by systemic therapists. But alongside the more traditional approaches, we argue here that the systemic tool is particularly suited to our patients and their families. © De Boeck Université.
