Abstract The objective of the study is to investigate the mechanical behavior of slender columns of reinforced confined high strength concrete namely critical load, middle column deflection, displacement ductility and the moment magnification factor. To determine the factors mentioned above the analysis of the slender columns are carried out using P-∆ analysis known as second order analysis where the stability effect of the column is taken into acccount. Sectional analysis of the reinforced confined high strength concrete column is implemented using numerical method. The slender column is subjected to the combination of axial and flexural loads. Variables used are slenderness ratio, confinement factor of transverse reinforcement, load eccentricity, and area of the longitudinal reinforcement. Failure mechanism of the slender column is constraint only at the material failure not the failure due to geometry. The value of the moment magnification factor analyzed in the study is compared to the formula complying with the Indonesian Building Code of SKSNI-91. The results of the analysis shows that the variables used except the confinement factor influence the behavior of the slender column while values of the moment magnification factor of the Indonesian Building Code of SKSNI-91 in general result in conservative figures for the slender column of the reinforced confined high strength concrete.
