Abstract

The CSIC is designing a salt gradient solar pond to be located at the Solar Experimental Plant at Arganda del Rey, Madrid. The principal purpose of constructing this pond is to provide a tool to knowledge of the pond behaviour and its use as a research facility for the collection and seasonal storage of solar energy. The project will investigate measurement methods of radiation transmission and extensive computer calculations will be made of ground heat loss from the solar pond. The results of these activities will be used to formulate optimized solar pond designs and used to create solar pond energy utilization maps for Spain.
