Raphael Donny is a visual artist, often called as motion designer, who uses technology as a tool for the creation of his visual work. During his time as a 'visual jockey', Donny experimented with a projector to project motion images on a surface that is called video mapping. In 2015, a video mapping entitled "Alas Ing Krapyak" was presented by Donny at Festival Kesenian Yogyakarta. Mythical folklore about Panggung Krapyak was used as a visualization concept. Semiotic approach was used during this research by using media transfer study (kajian alih wahana) from Sapardi Djoko Damono, which then will suggest that there is translation, adaptation, and media transfer that can be used to express an idea in a work of art. Media transfer have been indirectly created by artist, where a work of art can be created from different idea and media yet able to carry the same content or concept. Media transfer study as a means of experiment can also be seen in the "Alas Ing Krapyak" video mapping by Raphael Donny. This research aims to know and understand the correlation of media transfer in Raphale Donny's video mapping. The result of the study is expected to be the reference for media transfer study in the future and artwork creation.
